This Anti Virus has a main page display that shows the security status of your computer. The green icon symbolizes that the security status of your computer is Safe/good. Microsoft Security Essentials is always up to date and runs automatically (if connected to the internet) to help protect your computer against malware and other dangerous threats.
When your computer encounters a problem that requires your attention, the main page of Microsoft Security Essentials will change based on the issue your computer is facing. The status bar will turn either yellow or red depending on the situation at hand, and a notification appears in a prominent location on the page with the suggested action.
The yellow icon means that your computer's status is potentially unprotected and you should take some action, such as turning on real-time protection, running a system scan. The red icon indicates that your computer is at risk and you should take action as quickly as possible according to the recommendations of the notification that appears.
