When you learn SEO, one of the words you hear quite often is backlinks. Backlinks are one of the off-page SEO optimization techniques, namely how links that lead to your website can be planted on other websites. Of course, to have a positive impact or influence on your website, backlinks must come from quality websites, websites that have high authority and are also relevant.

You can learn about off-page SEO, especially backlinks, from SEO books, online articles about SEO, communities that discuss SEO, SEO forums and many more. There are quite a lot of blogs in Indonesian and also foreign languages, for example English, which have an SEO theme. When studying SEO, sometimes one or more terms are found or used that are still related to backlinks.

Sometimes the meaning of one or more terms is understood, but there are others whose definition or understanding needs to be looked for first. This is intended so that you can fully and comprehensively understand what is being studied. The following are several terms in backlinks that you need to know to make it easier for you to learn off-page SEO, especially those related to backlinks:

Backlinks

SEO: Some Important Terms in Backlinks
SEO: Backlinks

The first starts with the backlink itself. Backlinks have other names such as inbound links, inlinks, incoming links or backlinks. Backlinks are links or hyperlinks found on other websites that lead to your website. Quality backlinks are important to encourage better SEO because they can increase a website's ranking or visibility in search engine results (SERP).

Backlinks are links from a domain or subdomain that lead to other web pages. Sometimes backlinks are also called "inbound links" or "incoming links", which literally means "incoming links" because they are usually placed in content that receives or provides references to other similar websites.

Like a pillar, the use of backlinks is to strengthen the position of the website or content it refers to so that it can get a high and stable ranking in SERPs related to certain keywords.

For example, we have an article about how to optimize a website. So, to strengthen the position of this article on Google, there must be some other content or website that places a link to our article in its content, as we did in this paragraph. Then backlinks are divided into 2 general categories, namely:

1. Internal Backlinks

Internal backlinks are links that connect two web pages on the same domain so that visitors can find further information about a topic or read other relevant content.

Internal links are intended to increase the duration of the audience's visit to a domain, as well as increase the number of visits to certain content. Internal links can also reduce the bounce rate, which is a metric that shows that visitors don't like reading content and immediately close it.

2. External Backlinks

External backlinks are links that lead to or are received from other domains. This link is needed if your website does not have linkable content for a particular topic, so you add resources from other websites.

External links not only help provide information to visitors, but also help other websites that you refer to build their authority and relevance in search engines. In addition, this type of backlink will slowly 'flow' more traffic to the external domain it refers to.

Link Building

The next phrase related to backlinks is link building. Link building is the process of getting backlinks (inbound links) from other websites that point to your website. There are several ways to do link building, such as creating quality content, commenting on blogs, guest blogging, social media sites and so on.

Link Building is a technique for getting backlinks that point to your website on other websites. The goal is to strengthen the relevance and authority of your website in search engines. Backlinks received from other websites essentially work like trust support. So, gaining the trust of many websites is what you should focus on when collecting backlinks.

Remember, a website without backlinks pointing to it is almost impossible to rank at the top. Apart from that, the website will also have difficulty getting exposure, organic traffic, or even feel irrelevant.

The question is, how do you get backlinks from other websites? What must be done so that other websites will include a link to your website? We will discuss the answer in the section below, complete with useful tips that you can follow.

1. Create Interesting Content

Of course, the first way to get quality backlinks is to create interesting content. Try looking at the websites in first position on Google. Usually the content is very complete, concise, interesting and clear.

You can use it as inspiration to create content on your own blog. That way, visitors will reference your content for certain topics. Over time, more and more people will be interested and recommend it to other readers.

Organic website traffic and the number of visits will also increase. As a result, your website will be linked to more frequently on other websites, which is basically the main goal of a Link Building strategy.

Apart from being good and complete, your content must also cover the entire topic idea, be unique, and be able to attract the reader's attention. You can add interactive elements by asking what they got from your content and whether they have questions or criticism or suggestions.

Visit well-known blogs in the same niche to see what kind of content they post. Look for topics they haven't covered, then fill those gaps with your content. Or, look for other content on the internet and use it as a reference with a touch of your own writing style.

Remember, don't copy content from other websites exactly! Just use it as a reference for ideas and context, but don't plagiarize entire sentences or even entire paragraphs. This is a dirty practice and could result in a penalty from Google.

2. Write Guest Posts for Other Websites

Guest posting, which is also known as guest posting on other blogs, is the most efficient way to get backlinks to your website naturally. By publishing content on other websites according to your expertise, not only will your authority regarding the chosen topic increase, but you can also reach audiences who were previously unfamiliar with your website.

Guest posts are usually carried out by 2 companies that work together and have similar businesses. The two exchange quality content that provides information and education to their readers using their respective expertise.

Just as your website is referenced and receives backlinks, your partners will also want to create content on your website. Giving outside parties the opportunity to become authors on your blog can bring its own benefits.

But remember, backlinks from guest posts will be easier to get if your website or blog already has a good reputation. That way, the guest can have more confidence in exchanging quality links even though they have never met you.

3. Place Ads on Other Blogs

You can also create advertisements to contribute to other websites and get backlinks. Advertisements have their own requirements that you need to understand before starting to create and post them on other blogs.

First, advertising has a commercial feel, usually highlighting a product and its most attractive features. Of course, this will be very different from Guest Posts which are more informative and educational.

Apart from that, advertising will always be in the form of paid content. So, your website and content can only be displayed in search engines if you have the budget to carry out this link building strategy.

4. Leave comments on various blogs and forums

Comments can be the easiest and fastest way to get backlinks. You just need to look for blogs and forums that provide comments columns, then start commenting to become better known.

However, sometimes comments can only appear if they have been approved by the content or website owner. Usually this is done to prevent spam comments. So, be wise in your comments and make sure they are always relevant to the content being discussed.

Don't be seen as an annoying visitor who only sends spam and doesn't contribute anything to the content. Comments that contain links will usually automatically be tagged "no-follow". As previously discussed, backlinks like this will not help strengthen the authority of the landing page.

Even so, you can still introduce your blog or company. That way, you can expand your relationships, attract other visitors, and ultimately gain higher authority.

5. Be active on social media

It cannot be denied that social media is a very effective tool for building persona and authority on the internet. So, create a page or community for your blog or brand. It doesn't stop there, you also have to actively interact with visitors and customers. You can answer questions, interact via comments, and ask questions every day.

Social media can help spread your website links naturally, even though most of them are labeled “no-follow” when published. You can do this after publishing a new post, or when there is new news about your online store.

Link Juice

Link juice or link equity is the SEO value (some call it strength or positive characteristics) of the link that will be forwarded or transferred from the web page where the link is located to the web page or website to which the link is directed. If the link is on a website that has high authority and is relevant, more SEO value can be transferred to increase the ranking or visibility of the web page to which the link leads.

Links Juice are the most basic and common type of backlink. This type of link can direct visitors from other websites to your website or blog so that it can help increase traffic.

As you know, the higher the traffic, the better the website ranking on SERP. Search engines know that your website has content that will attract lots of visitors. This is what is called domain authority (DA).

When you reach first position on Google, your website will automatically become the main reference in its niche. Various other website pages will also use it as an example, even by competitors.

NoFollow Links

NoFollow links are links that use the nofollow value for the rel attribute (rel="nofollow"). In backlinks, NoFollow links cannot forward or transfer SEO value (link juice or link equity). NoFollow backlinks do not make any contribution to increasing the ranking of a web page or website even though they come from websites that have high authority and are relevant.

The NoFollow value instructs search engines not to follow the link. NoFollow links are only used by people who want to open the web page the link leads to so they are still useful for bringing in traffic. In SEO, the NoFollow value is usually used for links that lead to less trustworthy web pages, irrelevant web pages, profile pages, comment systems and so on.

DoFollow link

DoFollow links are the opposite of NoFollow links. By default, all links or hyperlinks that do not have the rel="nofollow" attribute are DoFollow. DoFollow links can forward or transfer SEO value (link juice or link equity). If the backlink comes from a website that has high authority and is relevant, this will be useful for increasing the ranking or visibility of the web page in SERP.

Do-Follow links are the links that you should focus on in your strategy to get quality backlinks. These backlinks are the opposite of No-Follow and actually link one domain to another. This means that a link placed on a website that has a "follow" tag in the page script will 'transfer' the authority and relevance of the website to the page referred to.

This type of backlink is used by search engines to identify the authority of a website. The more Do-Follow links a website receives, the more its position will rise over time.

Do-Follow links are commonly used by companies operating in similar or related industries. This type of backlink can be a good strategy for introducing each other's businesses to each other's customers, as well as exchanging backlinks to strengthen authority and relevance on Google.

Internal Links

Internal links are links that come from one web page to another web page on the same website. Internal links have many benefits, such as reducing the bounce rate and providing a better user experience. Internal links also apply the transfer of SEO value (link juice or link equity) because each web page can have a different page authority.

Internal links are links that exist on a website. When you click on the link, it leads to another page of the same website. These internal links have an important role for SEO because they can help Google to index your website and understand its overall structure.

If Google can understand the content of your website, it will be easier for your website to get top rankings in search results. The insertion of internal links is usually in written content or in the form of anchor text with certain phrases.

Later, readers can check the inserted link by clicking, then the link will open a website with the same domain name as the website domain that is currently open. However, you need to know that the benefits of internal links can be maximized if the content produced includes appropriate SEO techniques.

Linking Root Domain

Root Domain Links refer to the number of backlinks from one domain received by a website. This means that no matter how many Do-Follow backlinks a page receives, if they all come from the same domain, the link will still be counted as 1 backlink.

So there will be no point in asking for lots of backlinks to one website to get the same authority and relevance even if its reputation is good. Because, no matter how many there are, it will only be considered one backlink.

You still need lots of unique backlinks from various websites that already have a high reputation or Domain Rating in search engines. This term refers to the number of incoming links to your website that come from one unique domain. For example, if a website has 15 links on different web pages that all point to your website, then these links will only be considered as one link or one linked root domain.

Low-Quality Links

Low-quality links are links that come from spam websites, pornographic websites, gambling websites and so on. This kind of website will only have a bad impact.

In backlinks, websites that are less trustworthy or irrelevant also have low quality links. Low quality links from websites like this cannot continue or transfer SEO value (link juice or link equity).

Anchor Text

Anchor text, also called link title or link label, is text or writing to name the link that will be displayed on a web page. Anchor text also plays an important role in SEO. This is because anchor text functions like keywords. The text or writing for the link name can provide information related to the web page.

Anchor text is text on a website that leads to a certain link or URL. Backlinks in the form of anchor text can lead to your own website (internal) or links that lead to other websites (external).

Anchor text is one aspect that can increase a website's ranking in search engines. However, you also have to pay attention to the relevance of the content and the links created. Make sure both have relevance so that the backlink value is good in the eyes of search engines.

There are several types of anchor text, but in this article we will only discuss the 6 types of anchor text that are often used. Here are the 6 types of anchor text:

1. Exact match

The first is Exact match, which is a type of anchor text that contains the same keywords as the keywords on the target page. Exact match is a type of anchor text that can be said to be the most effective for increasing rankings in search engines.

However, you need to pay attention, if you implement it incorrectly it will make your website ranking worse. For example, if you direct your website to a URL with the title "technical articles on cpanel management" which uses the keyword "technical articles", then the anchor text displayed will also contain "technical articles".

2. Partial matches

Partial match is a type of anchor text that is broadly the same as an exact match, but you can add variations to the text displayed, so it doesn't need to be exactly the same as the keywords used.

For example, if the website is directed to a page with the keyword "erzedka webuilder" then you can display anchor text such as "install erzedka webuilder."

3. Generic Anchors

Generic anchor is the type that is commonly used. Usually generic anchors use words like "click here", "download now", or "read more" to direct to a particular website link.

4. Naked anchor text

As the name suggests, this type of anchor text will display text in the form of the website link used. For example, if you direct an article to the url "https://erzedka.com/journal" then the anchor text displayed will also be "https://erzedka.com/journal".

5. Branded text

Branded text is also a type of anchor text that is widely used. This type will display the brand name in the link. For example, in the website article there is a URL to "https://www.erzedka.com/vps-free/" so the anchor text can be displayed as "Erzedka".

6. Image

This type of anchor text will use alt text on an image on the website on the link used for the anchor text.
