Features and Benefits of PCMAV
In terms of security, PCMAV is accompanied by the ability to ward off keyloggers, detect and prevent malware, anticipate phishing, scan USB drives automatically, scan memory and use heuristic technology. PCMAV can also scan compressed files but the scanning process will run slower than usual.
Real time protection is also available but you can still scan manually. The way to do this is through the PCMAV main window or through the context menu in File Explorer. To improve accuracy in detecting malware, the PCMAV engine can be combined with the ClamAV database. Integration with ClamAV is optional and is disabled by default so it needs to be enabled if you want to use it.
The drawback is that the steps for activating ClamAV are not as easy as clicking an option because there are several library files along with several other files that must be added manually to the PCMAV folder. It's a bit inconvenient but in return, more malware can be detected.
Meanwhile, updating the ClamAV database can be done automatically and manually. To be able to update automatically, of course, the first condition that must be met is an internet connection. The update process itself occurs every time PCMAV is launched.
If there is a problem with automatic updates, you can visit the official ClamAV website to download the virus database manually. The database is available on the download page on the Virus Database menu. Download the file called daily.cvd and then save it in the PCMAV folder, to be precise, in the ClamAV plugin subfolder.
By updating the database regularly, the risk of being attacked by malware will be smaller. However, the larger the database, the longer the detection process will take. To slightly reduce scanning time, you can add files that have been proven safe to the Ignore List.
