Alarm light is orange

The printer is not ready to load paper from the Front Tray. Load the paper correctly in the Front Tray and press the RESUME / CANCEL button on the printer.

Power Light Flashing Blue

When the Power light flashes blue even though the printer is not in use, the printer shakes the ink tank. It takes about 10 seconds to 3 minutes.

Two flashes:
  • Paper is not loaded in the Rear Tray.
  • Reload the paper into the Rear Tray and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

Three blinks:
  • Front Tray or Front Feed Support is closed. / Paper jam.
  • If the Front Tray is closed, open it. The printer continues printing.
  • If Front Feed Support is closed while printing from the Front Tray, open it and press the RESUME / CANCEL button on the printer.
  • If the error persists when the Front Tray or Front Feed Support is opened, the paper might be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reinsert the paper into the printer, and then press the RESUME / CANCEL button.

Four flashes:
  • The ink tank is not installed properly./The ink may have run out.
  • If the light on the ink tank does not come on, the ink tank may not be installed correctly.
  • Install the appropriate ink tank.
  • If the light on the ink tank is blinking, the ink may have run out.
  • It is recommended to replace the ink tank.
  • Close the Top Cover after replacing the ink tank to continue printing.
  • If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, press the RESUME / CANCEL button with the ink tank installed. Then printing can be continued in the out of ink state. Replace the empty ink tank immediately after printing. The printer may be damaged if printing continues under the ink-out condition.

Five flashes:
  • Print Head is not installed./ Print Head is damaged.
  • Follow the instructions given in your setup manual to install the Print Head.
  • If the Print Head is already installed, remove the Print Head once and reinstall it.
  • If the error is still not resolved, the Print Head may be damaged. Contact the service center.

Six flashes:
  • Inner Cover is opened.
  • If the Inner Cover opens when starting to print on paper, close the Inner Cover, and then press the RESUME / CANCEL button on the printer.

Seven flashes:
  • The ink tank is not installed in the correct position.
  • Some ink tanks are not installed in the correct position. (The light on the ink tank flashes.)
  • More than one ink tank of the same color is installed. (The light on the ink tank flashes.)
  • Make sure the ink tank is installed in the correct position.

Eight flashes:
  • The ink absorber is almost full.
  • The ink absorber is almost full.
  • Press the printer's RESUME / CANCEL button to continue printing. Contact the service center.

Nine flashes:
  • The printer has not received a response from the digital camera./The connected digital camera or digital video camcorder is not compatible with this printer.
  • Check the device connected to the printer. Direct printing of photos is only possible with PictBridge compliant devices.
  • Communication times out if an operation takes too long or if it takes too much time to send data. This may cancel printing. In such a case, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
  • When printing from a PictBridge compliant device, depending on the model or brand of your device, you may need to select a PictBridge-compliant print mode on the device before connecting it to the printer. You may also have to turn on your device or select Playback mode manually after connecting the device to the printer. Perform the necessary operations before connecting your device according to the instruction manual.
  • If the error is still not resolved, check if you can print another photo.

Ten flashes:
  • The Front Tray is not set to the correct position./The Front Tray is moved during printing.
  • When printing from the Rear Tray, return the Front Tray to its normal printing position, make sure paper is loaded in the Rear Tray, and then press the RESUME / CANCEL button on the printer to continue printing.   • If you have moved the Front Tray during printing, return the Front Tray to the correct position, then press the RESUME / CANCEL button on the printer and try printing again.
  • Do not move the Front Tray during printing.

Eleven flashes:

Automatic Print Head Alignment failed./The Page Size setting does not match the paper size loaded in the printer.

When performing Auto Print Head Alignment:
  • Print Head nozzles are clogged.
  • Press the RESUME / CANCEL button to clear the error, and print the nozzle check pattern to check the Print Head status.
  • Paper sizes other than A4 or Letter are loaded in the Rear Tray.
  • Press the RESUME / CANCEL button to clear the error, then load two sheets of A4 / Letter sized plain paper in the Rear Tray.
  • For Automatic Print Head Alignment, always load paper in the Rear Tray.
  • The Paper Output Slot is exposed to strong light.
  • Press the RESUME / CANCEL button to clear the error, and then adjust the operating environment and/or position of your printer so that the Paper Output Slot is not exposed directly to strong light.
  • After performing the steps above, if the problem persists after aligning the Print Heads again, press the RESUME / CANCEL button to clear the error, and then perform Manual Print Head Alignment.

When printing a nozzle check pattern or performing Manual Print Head Alignment:
  • In addition A4/Letter sized paper is loaded.
  • Press the RESUME / CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error, and load A4 / Letter sized plain paper in the Rear Tray. Then try showing again.
  • When performing a typical print job:
  • Press the RESUME / CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error. Then check the Page Size setting in the Page Setup sheet (Windows) or the Page Setup dialog box (Macintosh) in the printer driver and load paper with the same size as the settings and try printing again.
  • If this error occurs even when the paper loaded in the printer is the same as the setting, set the printer driver not to detect the paper width.
  • Select the Detect paper width check box again after printing is complete, and then click Send.
  • Custom Settings on the Maintenance sheet, clear the Detect paper width check box, and then click Send.
  • In the Canon IJ Printer Utility, select Custom Settings in the pop-up menu, clear the Detect paper width check box, and then click Send.
  • The settings here are also applied under Direct Printing from a digital camera.

Twelve flashes:
  • Paper is not loaded correctly in the Front Tray./The ink tank has been replaced during printing.
  • When printing from the Front Tray:
  • Press the RESUME / CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error, and then load paper properly in the Front Tray according to the procedure described in Load Paper and try printing again.
  • If the ink tank has been replaced during printing:
  • Press the RESUME / CANCEL button on the printer to clear the error, then continue printing.

Fourteen flashes:
  • The ink tank cannot be recognized.
  • The ink tank is not compatible with this printer. (The light on the ink tank is off.)
  • Install the appropriate ink tank.

Fifteen flashes:
  • The ink tank cannot be recognized.
  • An ink tank error has occurred. (The light on the ink tank is off.)
  • Replace the ink tank.

Seventeen flashes:
  • The printer detects the t . condition get out.
  • The printer has detected an ink-off condition (The light on the ink tank is blinking).
  • To avoid printing problems such as ink mixing, this printer is designed to stop printing by flashing the orange Alarm light seventeen times when the remaining ink level in the ink tank is below the amount of ink required to maintain printer and print quality.
  • Stop printing, replace the ink tank, and then print again.
  • If some of the ink lights are flashing, check how fast they are blinking. A fast blink (approximately one second interval) indicates that the ink is empty. Slow blinking (approximately three second intervals) indicates that the ink is low.
